Morganton, NC - Burke County Sheriff's Deputy Martin Lawing made his first public appearance, since returning home, during Saturday's fundraising event at the Drexel Fairgrounds.
Lawing has been back in Burke County for nearly two weeks, following more than five months of medical care in Atlanta, Ga. Of the appearance at the fundraiser, Lawing said, "It's nice to finally be able to attend one."
Saturday's fundraiser was held to benefit deputy Lawing, who was injured in the line of duty last December in Morganton. The day's events included live music, cloggers, a dunking booth, and the special appearance of two legendary Nascar show cars, the No.3 car of Dale Earnhardt Sr., and the No.88 car of Dale Jr.
Lawing made a second appearance at a fundraiser in Morganton Saturday evening. The professional wrestling event was held at the Collett Street Recreation Center.
