Friday
- A Course in Miracles study group from noon to 1:30 p.m. Fridays at the Morganton Public Library's lower-level meeting room helps students achieve inner peace through greater awareness and understanding about themselves. Call 438-4074.
- Harvest Chapel, 910 Carbon City Road will host a harvest party beginning at 6 p.m. Activities include trunk-n-treat, a puppet show or get creative painting a pumpkin or making a delicious treat at the make and take goodie station. A snack will be provided along with lots of fun trivia and games. Costumes are welcome.
- El Bethel Baptist Church will host a trunk-n-treat from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31. Bring your children for a safe place to get candy and play some games. Visit www.elbethelchurch.net.
- Enon Baptist Church will host a trunk-n-treat at 6 p.m. on Oct. 31. Hot dogs will be served.
- First Baptist Church will host The Great Pumpkin Party on Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Fun for the whole family, featuring carnival games, wacky booths, cake walks, giant inflatables, face painting, prizes, and lots of candy. - First Baptist Church in Hildebran will host a fall festival from 6 to 8 p.m. Activities include hayrides, crafts, games and snacks including deep fried Snickers bars. Call 397-3641.
- Calvin Heights Baptist Church will host a fall festival from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Activities include an inflatable jumping castle, dunking booth, cake walk, bonfire, trunk-n-treat and more.
Saturday
- Salem United Methodist Church will host its annual mission bazaar. See story on C2 for all the details.
- Willow Tree A.M.E. Church will host at breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. for $5.
- The Glen Alpine Recreation Foundation will sponsor a barbecue benefit from noon to 6 p.m. at G&G Framing for $5 for adults and $3 for children.
- Yard sale from 7 a.m. to noon at Drexel First Baptist Church, 200 S. Main St. Fall and winter clothing, house items, books, toys and much more.
- Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church will host a barbecue form noon to 5 p.m. for $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. Bluegrass gospel singing and homemade applebutter.
- Heritage Baptist will host a Harvest Hoe Down from 3 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 1. Booths and Pumpkin Patch Store open until 5 p.m. Pizza and snacks served at 5 p.m. Final event at 6 p.m. with treat bags given out afterwards.
- Bethel United Methodist Church on Dysartsville Road will hold its annual fall carnival from 5 to 8 p.m. Activities include games, food, hay rides and much more. The carnival is free and open to the public.
- Valdese First Baptist Church, 500 Faet St. NW, will host its annual mission craft fair from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crafts, baked goods, silent auction, breakfast and lunch and much more.
- Mountain Grove United Methodist Church will host a benefit fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Menu includes fried and broiled fish with hush puppies, french fries, baked beans, slaw, drink and desserts for a donation.
- Winkler's Grove Baptist Church will host a fall festival from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities include breakfast, a country store, yard sale, silent auction, lunch, and beginning at 10 a.m., children can play for free on the inflatables on the ballfield.
- Mt. Olive Baptist Church annual building fundraiser will begin at 5 p.m. Menu includes pork or beef with baked beans, green beans, slaw, buns, chips and drink for $7. Dine in or carry out.
- Calvary Free Will Baptist Church will host its annual Fall Festival beginning at 11 am. Activities include a cake walk, bingo and prizes, petting zoo, air walks, horse and buggy rides, hot dogs and hamburgers, cotton candy and popcorn, horseshoe tournament and car show. - Squire Parsons Trio will be in concert at 6 p.m. at Catawba Valley Baptist Church, NC 18 North. A love offering will be taken. Call 437-9237.
- Mimosa Christian Counseling Center is hosting a spaghetti lunch fundraiser from noon to 2 p.m. in the Morganton First Baptist Church fellowship hall. Dine in or carry out.
- Calvin Heights Baptist Church will have a "How to Teach the Bible Clinic" from 5 to 7 p.m. Brian Skeggs from Burkemont Baptist Church will be doing the training. All are welcome to attend.
- White Oak Baptist Church, 345 Hickory Airport Road, will host Revival beginning at 6 p.m. today and at 7 p.m. nightly Monday through Nov 7. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Joel Cook, pastor of Oakland Heights Baptist Church.
Monday
- Angel Food Yumm, a free community meal at First United Methodist Church in Valdese, is served from 4:30 to 6 p.m. every Monday. Call 874-0006.
Tuesday
- The Christian Business Men's Connection of Burke County meets for lunch at noon Tuesdays in the Morganton Community House. It's non-denominational, open to the public, with no membership fees or requirements and no reservations needed. Newcomers can network with area businessmen and professionals. - Burke United Christian Ministries provides assistance for working families and seniors without transportation from 5 to 7 p.m. on every second and third Tuesday night of the month. Assistance includes food, clothing, emergency financial assists and soup-kitchen meals. Basic eligibility requirement is proof of employment (at least 30 hours). Picture ID required for new clients. Financial assists require utility-disconnect notices. Clients will be seen on first-come, first-served basis.
Wednesday
- The Grace Episcopal Church Women will meet for their monthly luncheon at noon in the parish hall at 303 S. King St. This annual meeting will include the election of officers and voting on the budget. All Episcopal women, their friends and guests are always welcome. - AWANA from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Baptist Church is for ages 3 (potty-trained, please) through 12th grade. Food, fun and games. Parents may worship at 7 p.m. with Pastor Dewayne Buchanan.
- Stepping Out for Jesus begins at 6 p.m. for youth at Bethel United Methodist Church. Food and games for all.
- Outreach Wednesdays are on the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of each month at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. A meal is served.
- "Knitwits," a prayer shawl ministry at Oak Hill United Methodist Church, invites anyone who knits, crochets or does other lapwork of any skill level, or who wants to learn, to meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays in the fellowship hall. Bring a project and a covered dish to share. Free and open to all. Call 433-5308.
- The Joy Group (Just Older Youth) of Drexel First Baptist Church is expanding its membership. Rehearsals are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays. Choir members come from seven churches in the area. Lunch follows the rehearsal. Bingo and trips are scheduled throughout the year. New members welcome.

- Morganton Christian Academy is holding a Little Caesars fundraiser. Orders will be taken now through Nov. 12. Orders will arrive at the school on Nov. 20. Little Caesars pizza kits, cookie dough and pie kits range in price from $12 to $19. To order, contact the school office at 437-1897.
- Restoration Christian Outreach Family Worship has moved to 203-A Rockyford St.
- Foothills Service Project's second store at 123 Main Ave. W., Hildebran, is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Donations are accepted at this location. Proceeds support Foothills Service Project Ministry.
- Good Samaritan Clinic, a free medical clinic for Burke County residents, needs licensed MOAs, nurses and LPNs as volunteers. Come by the clinic at 305 W. Union St. to fill out a volunteer application between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 439-9945.

- The Nehemiah Center is accepting registrations from young men who want to take part in The Nehemiah 8:10 Program that works with 7- to 13-year-olds. This free program includes career guidance, communication and social skills, fishing, mountain climbing, train and plane rides, camping and other activities throughout the year that engage young people's minds and spirits.
