Read children's letters to Santa

MORGANTON - Burke County children's letters to Santa Claus might make you laugh out loud or bring a tear to your eyes.
As he usually does, Santa this year shared many letters with The News Herald after carefully reading each one and adding the wish lists to his database of who's naughty and nice. Yes, Santa has gone high-tech; he runs Electronic List Filing (ELF) software on an IBBM (It Better Be Merry) 365.
Far beyond being simple "I want this…" letters, many children's messages may give you a bellyful of hearty "ho-ho-ho's" and some may mist your eyes with their poignancy. Some, dutifully cribbed from the teacher's whiteboard as a classroom exercise, have all the charm of a bill collector's form letter. But plenty are cheerfully chatty and more than a few may enchant you.
The News Herald publishes as many as we can in today's Christmas Greetings section where you'll find hundreds. It would take a dedicated reader indeed to pore over all of them, so here are a few excerpts that caught our eyes.
