Valdese — The Draughn High boys' swim team swept their Northwestern 4A competition, again, at a swim meet on Wednesday in Valdese.
The Lady Wildcats got their second loss to a NW4A school.
The girls' swim team was victorious over East Burke High 106-78 and Alexander Central High 106-57. The loss came at the hands of A.C. Reynolds High 125-106.
The Lady Wildcats took first place in five of eight individual events. Draughn did not win any team events.
Mackenzie Mull and Lauren Wallrichs led the way with two first-place finishes. Mull won the 200-yard Individual Medley and the 100-yard Butterfly. Wallrichs earned first place in the 200-yard Freestyle and 100-yard Breaststroke events.
The other first-place finisher for the Lady Wildcats was Marlanne Burris, in the 500-yard Freestyle. Jillian Grady and Jane Burris also grabbed first place finishes for the Lady Cavs. Grady won the 50- yard Freestyle and Burris won the 100-yard Backstroke.
The Wildcat boys swept through the competition as Draughn finished first out of the four participating teams. The Rockets finished second with 94 points and the Cavaliers finished third with 68 points. The Cougars finished last with 48 points.
As Draughn finished first in all three team events, the Wildcats won six of eight individual events. Austin Hyde picked up the first individual win in the 200-yard Freestyle.
After an A.C. Reynolds swimmer won the 200-yard Individual Medley, Shawn Reece, Aaron Daves and Matt Hodges won the next three events. Daves got another first-place finish in the 100- yard Backstroke. John Linkous won the final individual event to push Draughn over 100 points. Grant Guittard won the only individual event for East Burke in the 500-yard Freestyle.
Draughn and East Burke will meet again at the Valdese Aquatic Center on Wednesday along with McDowell High and Watauga High.
