The Valdese Family Friday Night's summer series will continue this week with the sounds of bluegrass provided by local band Three Mile Creek and Sweet Briar Jam at 7 p.m. in the Wachovia Parking lot.
Three Mile Creek is a unique family band consisting of Mom, Dad and seven of their eight children (ranging in age from 4 to 20). With so many family members in the band, there are numerous combinations of duos, trios, quartets and instrumentation that include banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar and acoustic bass. Their repertoire includes both Gospel and Bluegrass music that is heart felt and hard driving.
Sweet Briar Jam is a Caldwell County treasure ranging in ages 9 to 14, and they will conclude the evening with their great sound. This group originally began their playing career with three young men known as the Good Ol' Boys of Lenoir. Over time and many "gigs" the guys thought it would be cool to include the two youngest boy's sisters on some of the songs and thus created Sweet Briar Jam. These young people play with an understanding of bluegrass that many have strived to reach after many years of jamming and picking.
Family Friday Nights is sponsored by The Valdese Merchants Association, the Town of Valdese and The News Herald.
As part of the summer series in Valdese, free tram rides will be available and Myra's will continue its classic cars/antique cruise in.
The Valdese Farmers Market is also open Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. and Wednesday 8 a.m. to noon.
Also on Saturday the Valdese Merchants Association is continuing its annual yard sale event for the summer. The yard sales will be held the fourth Saturday of each month through September in the Town parking lot next to the Wachovia Bank. There is a $5 rental fee for a space. Call 879-2129.
