Saturday
- Bollinger's Chapel United Methodist Church on Carolina Street in Valdese will have a pinto bean and hot dog supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Call Angie Price at 874-1081, Jean Childers at 874-2096 or Larry Fletcher at 432-4298.
- United Methodist Women of Oak Hill United Methodist Church on N.C. 181 North will have a breakfast and bake sale from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Menu includes sausage and gravy biscuits, cakes, pies, cookies, bread, cupcakes and more.
- Faith Free Will Baptist Church will have a benefit barbecue with sides, drink and dessert from noon to 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall at 1308 Jamestown Road. Prices are $7 for adults; $4 for children. Crimson Cross, Joe Willis and Heaven Sent will sing. Proceeds go to Pastor Rocky and Sue Reese's medical expenses.
- The women of First Advent Christian Church, 211 Lenoir Road, will have a fall bazaar and silent auction from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Sausage biscuits, gravy and biscuits will be available for breakfast and pinto beans, macaroni and cheese, slaw, cornbread and dessert for lunch. Chicken pies, baked and canned foods, crafts and floral arrangements will be sold.
- Faith Temple Tabernacle will host the Gospel Way Singers at 7 p.m. Call 584-4749.
- Calvin Heights Baptist Church will host "A Prayer for the City" event from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freedom High School Stadium to pray for the schools, leaders, law enforcement, jobs, industries and more. Call 584-2876.
- Lighthouse Gospel Music Ministries, 212 Walker Road, will host The Blairs. Doors open at 5 p.m.; singing starts at 6 p.m. Free admission, coffee and snacks. Call 584-3697.
- Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 704 Praley St. SW, Valdese, will have a yard and bake sale starting at 7 a.m. Breakfast and lunch will be served.
- The Rev. Clee of Winston-Salem will be at the Collett Street Recreation Center at 7 p.m. for November 2 Remember. Tickets are $10 for adults; $3 for kids. Event includes clean comedy. Call 438-5350.
Sunday
- Chambers Chapel will celebrate Usher Day at 3 p.m. with Douglas Cuthbertson.
- Enon Baptist Church, 2059 Enon Road, will have a night of thanksgiving and praise at 7 p.m. The service will feature the music ministry of the church, Sanctuary Choir, Praise Band and Praise Team plus various solos and testimonies. The Sanctuary Choir will perform songs by Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and will include "Bless Your Name" (soloist, Candace Robinson), "I'm Amazed" (soloist, Jeff Robinson), "He's An Ontime God" (soloist, Kerri Piercy), "O For a Thousand Tongues" and "When I Get Up To Heaven" (soloist, Ginger Fox), "I Believe In A Hill Called Mt. Calvary" (soloist, Carroll Fox Jr., minister of music) and "When He Calls, I''ll Fly Away" (soloist, Terry Brawley). A nursery will be available for small children. Call 879-9241, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Glen Alpine Ministerial Association will have its annual community Thanksgiving service at 6 p.m. in Lail Road Community Church. Roger Brackett, pastor of Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan, will deliver the message. Shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child will be collected.
Wednesday
- Outreach Wednesdays are on the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of each month at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. A meal is served.
- "Knitwits,"a prayer shawl ministry at Oak Hill United Methodist Church, meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays in the fellowship hall. Bring a project and a covered dish. Call 433-5308.
- Joy Group (Just Older Youth) of Drexel First Baptist Church rehearses at 4 p.m.
Thursday
- Denton's Chapel United Methodist Church, 4.9 miles past Walmart on U.S. 64, will serve a free Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Christian Life Center. Call 433-7985 or 437-1136.
- Grace Chapel House of Prayer in Jesus Name, 215 Erwin St., Morganton, across from CoMMA, will serve a free Thanksgiving meal to the homeless from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 390-9801.
