Fall festivals in full swing

HILDEBRAN - Rain delayed the Hildebran Heritage Festival for three weeks, but come Saturday the vendors and performers will be ready and waiting to entertain visitors at the Albert L. Parkhurst Municipal Complex, 202 S. Center St.
One week later, Connelly Springs will have its 20th annual fall festival.
Now in its fourth year, the Hildebran Heritage Festival will introduce a town tram ride this year, festival events coordinator Karen Robinson said. Mayor Wendell Hildebrand will host the rides that explore historical features of Hildebran.
There are many new vendors this year, Robinson said. There will be about 60 merchandise, craft and food vendors at the site beginning at 10 a.m.
Robinson said the highlight of the festival comes after the merchandise and craft vendors leave around 4 p.m. because the classic cars begin pouring in.
The benefit car show begins at 5 p.m. It raises money for East Burke Senior Center and East Burke Christian Ministries.
There will be music throughout the day. Crossties Blue Grass Band and Elvis tribute musician Ed Smith will perform during the day. The Spektrum Band will perform alongside the car show.
The Town of Connelly Springs' 20th annual Fall Festival is scheduled for 2 until 7 p.m. Oct. 24 behind the town hall.
April Good, Connelly Springs parks and recreation chairperson, said the town sponsors and foots the bill for a large portion of the festival.
"With the economic downside, we're trying to provide as much as we can to community residents," Good said.
Area churches help provide food and the Scott David Band and Emily Rhyder are providing the entertainment, Good said.
A horseshoe tournament is drawing attention, but a kid zone, mechanical bull, dunking booth and senior adult games will be available, too, Good said.
Approximately 20 craft and service vendors will be at the festival, she said.
The event culminates at 7:15 p.m. with a fireworks show.
