There's something new at this year's Red, White and Bluegrass Festival in Morganton.
Well, not exactly at the festival, whose regular venues are Catawba Meadows and the Collett Street Recreation Center.
The new event will be at two restaurants on the Greenway where diners can enjoy live music with their lunch.
Dale Meyer of Sound Stage LLC said the Red, White and Bluegrass Festival wanted to reach more people, including both locals who can't leave work for the mid-afternoon performances and out-of-town visitors looking for activities before the regular concert series begins.
The band Red Rockin' Chair will perform from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Friday Friends, 315 Sanford Drive, and Thursday at Judges just north of the State Employees Credit Union and Ingles at 128 Greenlee Ford Road.
Both restaurants feature casual family dining both indoors and on spacious outdoor decks overlooking the Catawba River.
There's no charge for the music, which won't be all bluegrass.
Four veteran musician make up Red Rockin' Chair. Jack Lawrence, Michael Reno Harrell, Tom Kuhn and Dale Meyer blends folk, bluegrass and country on bass, mandolin, guitar, dobro and banjo.
Performances on the Riverstage in Catawba Meadows start at 2:30 p.m. today and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. The festival moves to the Collette Street Rec Center for performances starting at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
