The one thing grandparents of today need is encouragement. Our grandparents are younger and more involved in the actual raising of grandchildren.
The responsibility of completely or partially supplementing everyday schedules of a grandchild is in some cases a family affair for almost every member of some families. The taxing duties are overwhelming and sometimes are not a part of the plans grandparents have anticipated so early. Being flexible is important.
I was a young mother as well as well as a young grandmother. So I understand how unexpected changes can affect one's life.
But our heavenly Father says, in John 14:16, "I will give you another helper, that he may be with you forever." That is why God has given you the Holy Spirit, whom will abide with you always. You always will have a constant companion.
Our Father will not forsake or leave you in the time of need. When added responsibilities become overwhelming and you feel like giving up, that you are not respected and not understood, just realize it says in John 14:26 "The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you." God will supply all your needs.
Being a grandparent is a very special journey of loving and advising. Having a sense of patience is the key to the pure enjoyment of being with our grandchildren.
They become a companion of fun and offer the opportunity to correct mistakes made with raising our own children. At times when we feel weary and worn, grandchildren can be of some comfort and lift our spirits to a new level.
As parents we have questioned our decisions made concerning the guidelines we set for children, but the assurances of a second chance with grandchildren could be God's way of saying, "the spirit of the truth will guide you into all the truth." John 16:13
Grandparents are the best listeners and children feel comfortable around people who are focused and not judgmental.
Every child needs an adult to confide in and a big hug goes a long way. One of the best engagements to enjoy with grandchildren is attending church together. Introducing your grandchildren to Christ is the best gift to be given for understanding of love and peace.
Believe that prayer works and as we pray for our children and grandchildren, be specific in asking for blessings.
Pray that God will lead our children to grow in him, that they will pursue the Lord's choice of vocation, that they will serve God all the days of their life, that they will find God's choice of a marriage partner and that they will raise their children in a Godly home. Allow the Christ to be the master of your life and show your grandchildren how God blesses all who obey his rules.
Be encouraged to consider the outcome of how you communicate, model behaviors, and accept failure as a lesson to your loved ones and how you handle even the smallest disappointments in life.
Truly enjoy all times spent with your grandchildren and treasure all memories made together.
Love unconditionally, live a life in God, make prayer a big part of everyday life and release your grandchildren to the Lord.
