Ms. Stanton's third-grade class at New Dimensions Charter School celebrated the Ancient Roman's winter solstice holiday of Saturnalia. For a standing-room only audience, the students performed skits about gods and goddesses, shared their knowledge of Nero and Caesar and exhibited Roman inspired mosaics.
Their Core Knowledge study of ancient Rome included a visit to the Pompeii exhibit at Discovery Place last month. The Saturnalia celebration would not have been complete without a feast of traditional foods including olives, boiled eggs, stuffed figs, cheese, grapes and must rolls. The feast ended with Jessica Dale singing to the class in Latin, the language of Ancient Rome. Veni, vedi, vici!
