Churchill's Restaurant and Pub may be changing ownership, but new owner Cullen Guzman assures customers that restaurant favorites and sushi night will continue.
Jamie and Christine Thomas opened Churchill's at 108 E. Meeting St. on March 20, 2004. This Saturday, a week after the restaurant's fifth anniversary, the husband and wife team will bid the business goodbye.
The Thomases moved from England to Morganton in 1996.
"I am very pleased and proud of what we put together in this restaurant," Jamie Thomas said. "It's an excellent restaurant … and life will be different for a little while."
He explained he feels burnt out from the long hours at the restaurant and now looks forward to free-time in the evenings.
Guzman, a Morganton native with a background in food and restaurants, said, "We're going to keep all the favorite stuff that people are already enjoying and we are going to add some things that we feel will improve what's here."
Sushi on Wednesday nights and Friday-evening entertainment will remain, Guzman said. He hopes to add special events on Saturday as well.
The restaurant will stay closed for a short time to allow for a smooth transition, Guzman said.
As the opening date approaches, more information on what to expect will be available, he said.
