Put the sparkle back in your eyes this weekend at the 34th annual North Carolina Rock and Gem Show.
Hosted by the Collett Street Recreation Center, the show begins Friday and continues Saturday and Sunday.
Morganton Director of Parks and Recreation Gary Leonhardt said the show includes vendors from across the region who are not only selling rocks and gems, but also repairing jewelry and dispensing advice on how to make it.
Local gem and mineral enthusiast Oscar Tate will be on hand at the educational booth.
And there are activities and games, Leonhardt said. An interactive gem-mining booth will be open and students may participate in a gem and mineral scavenger hunt.
Leonhardt said the gem show originated with a now-disbanded rock and gem club that used to meet at the recreation center.
The recreation center continues to sponsor the event that draws 800 to 1,200 people annually, Leonhardt said.
