Late on a Friday afternoon in August after a soaking shower, as the clouds rolled into the eastern sky and out of sight, to our wondering eyes when we looked up what did we see? A bright, beautiful, full double rainbow that stretched low over the entire horizon. Awesome! Did you see it?
It reminded me of research on rainbows I'd done early last year! The Living Webster Encyclopedic Dictionary described a rainbow as "a bow or an arc of kaleidoscopic colors, formed by the refraction and reflection of rays of light through drops of rain, appearing in the part of the heaven opposite to the sun; a natural display of prismatic colors, as in the spray of a waterfall." You can easily discover more details if you check out some of the Internet sites about this phenomenon. It's fascinating. Look it up!
Did you know the Bible talks about the rainbow from its first through its last? Look up the following passages and read the entire texts.
Genesis 9:11-17 (King James version) promises, "When I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud and the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth."
Revelation 4:2-3 (KJV) promises: "And he that sat (on the throne) was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald."
A text in about the middle of the Bible, Ezekiel 1, has many verses explaining the glory of the Lord and His throne. In verse 28 it describes an "appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about ... and when I saw it, I fell upon my face...."
Sadly, so many people are so busy looking at the sights, sounds and scenes around them in this sin-polluted, dying world that they hardly give a thought about the eternal glories of the perfect abode of our Heavenly home, soon to begin the majestic reign of Jesus' kingdom of love.
Would you exchange the treasure of a billion dollars for an artificial penny? Of course not. Would you rather possess the temporary treasures of the Devil's kingdom (this suffering world) than be ready to receive Heaven's eternal rewards?
That is the question to think about.
