With web developing and design experience under their belts, two Morganton men are expanding their experience into the art world.

MESH Gallery, 114-B W. Union St., will host its grand opening from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday as they present The Art of Chocolate Artists Preview. The event, which includes music, hors d'oeuvres and drinks, is free and open to the public.

The gallery will preview select pieces that artists donated for auction to the Art of Chocolate, an annual fundraiser for Options Inc., a domestic violence shelter in Burke County. The exhibit will be on display until May 14.

MESH Gallery owners Eliot Lytle and Joe Carey said the fundraising event happened to coincide with the opening of the gallery.

Lytle said the advertising agency's connection to the community. The pair hopes the space is used for art that appeals to a variety of age and interest groups.

"It's about providing a space for local and regional artists," Lytle said, although he didn't rule out hosting artists from further away.

But Lytle and Carey aren't straying far from their previous careers, the gallery only serves as one part of their new advertising agency.

Lytle, a graphic designer, and Carey, a web developer, recently decided to combine their 25 years of commercial advertising to form MESH Design Group.

The pair has worked for individuals and local and national businesses, Carey said.

Lytle said MESH is trying to shape its own culture with the inclusion of the gallery.

"We want to really be part of the downtown community," Lytle said.
