    More people are needed for a planned talent contest this summer in Valdese. Barbara Hefner, tourism/ community affairs director for Valdese, said she's received about five applications for its "American Idol"-like contest on Saturday nights. The contest, renamed Valdese/Burke County Talent Contest, is scheduled to start June 6 and will be held in the town's parking lot beside of Wachovia Bank.
