Community members are rallying together today in the Historic Morganton Courthouse Square to show their support for Burke County Public Schools Superintendent David Burleson.
Rally coordinator Tammy Lail said the rally is meant to be a show of support and appreciation for Burleson.
"We owe it to him just to let him know where we stand and that we support him no matter what (the Burke County Board of Education does)," Lail said.
The event begins at 2 p.m. and Morganton Mayor Mel Cohen and Tommy Sain are just two of the many speakers lined up to share their experiences with Burleson.
Lail said organizers will be passing out flyers with contact information for government officials, who they encourage the community to contact.
Don't come with pitchforks in hand though, respect is key for this rally, Lail said.
"I want this to be an event that represents a great man," Lail said.
Signs are allowed at the event, but in accordance to the law, they cannot have sticks attached to them, Lail said. Attendees should also take care to park in designated areas and to keep the roads clear.
