If you haven't had enough of fair fun, you can help Drexel Fair celebrate its 60th anniversary.
The fair runs from Tuesday through Aug. 22, and as it's been for all of its years, admission is free. Gates open each night at 6 p.m.
Parking is $2, with the proceeds going to a scholarship fund at Western Piedmont Community College, said Don Deal, Drexel Fair president.
Entertainment during the fair will be:
• Tuesday night, Cold Fire, which will perform old soft rock.
• Wednesday, anyone can take part in Karaoke.
• Thursday, the Catalinas from Charlotte will perform beach music on Tommy Calhoun's Legendary Ford Stage.
• Friday, Throwdown Jones will perform rock.
• Saturday, the Scott Davis Band will perform country.
Inners Shows, based in Franklinton, will provide about 20 rides this year. New rides this year will be the Sea Ray, kiddie ride Bear Affair and the Dragon Coaster.
Returning rides will include the merry-go-round, Ferris Wheel, High Roller, Drop Zone and swings.
Arm bands for unlimited rides are $15 but look for $2 discount coupons at area businesses, according to fair officials. Each night, the first 60 people to buy an armband will receive a free T-shirt, Deal said, sponsored by Premium Fast Lube, Sonny's Used Cars, town of Drexel, Inners Shows and Fortune High Tech Marketing.
Also on offer will be an electric bull, a petting zoo, a magician on the midway and an antique bicycle display in the exhibit hall.
Vendors this year will be the Drexel Fire Department and its country ham, Drexel First Baptist Church serving up barbecue, Morganton First Church of God with its funnel cakes and the Burke County Cattlemen's Association serving up Angus beef hamburgers and hot dogs.
Jenk's Concessions will be back this year with all the fair favorites, as well as roasted corn on the cob, Deal said.
Folks can visit the livestock every night in the barn and on Saturday night, Burke County 4-H will hold a cattle show, sponsored by Farm Bureau and Espey Hardware.
Also on Saturday night will be the drawing for the Drexel bedroom suite. You must be present to win. Back this year, too, is the bicycle give-away for kids 13 years old and younger, sponsored by the town of Drexel, Morrison's Body Shop and the Drexel Fair board of directors.
Each night the fair will close with fireworks, Deal said.
"So just come on out and have some good, family fun," Deal said.
