Judge Donald Bridges has canceled this afternoon's court session in the Burke County Board of Education's lawsuit against the county commissioners.
The school board's attorney, Richard Schwartz, asked for time to revise his strategy and planned presentation of evidence in light of a new North Carolina Supreme Court ruling.
The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the verdict in a case similar to Burke County's. That involves the Beaufort County public school board and county commissioners.
The local trial continued this morning in the Burke County Courthouse's annex where school board Chair Tracy Norman returned to the witness box.
Her testimony attracted the largest crowd yet for the case — about 40 people.
