Burke County Narcotics Task Force investigators on Wednesday charged a Connelly Springs man with manufacturing marijuana after finding several of the plants on his property last week.
Sgt. Rick Hasson said Jeremy Joseph Gibson, 39, of 8869 N.C. 18 S., Connelly Springs is the owner of the property where investigators found 34 marijuana plants.
As Hasson escorted him out of the sheriff's office, Gibson denied the charges, saying, "I never growed nothing."
A tip spurred investigators to search the area by a North Carolina State Highway Patrol helicopter on July 14, resulting in the find, Hasson said.
The plants ranged in size from 2- to 6-feet tall and weighed 16 pounds.
Since January, the task force has found more than 200 marijuana plants in the county, Hasson said.
