Many Christians wear their feelings on their T-shirts to share messages of hope.
Screen-printed or embroidered messages on clothing draw many people's attention. Putting a Christian message on apparel is one more way to share the good news.
In early 2009, nearly 400 people were involved in a national research study that resulted in the "Christian Apparel Faith & Motivational Research Report." The CEO of Kerusso, the leading U.S. producer of Christian-themed attire, recently announced the findings. The study confirmed the importance of wearing faith-based apparel.
More than 44 percent of the people who wear Christian apparel said they had shared Christ with an unbeliever and asked him or her to commit their life to Christ. Also, 7.4 percent of unbelievers decided to receive Christ as their Savior during these discussions.
Kerusso launched the "Change Your Shirt! Change the World" campaign encouraging Christians to wear faith-based apparel and share their beliefs. The conversations that ensue between the wearer and the reader are being recorded on a Web site.
Living Water Christian Book Store's manager, Linda Freshour, said the Kerusso brand is a good seller. The store carries both Kerusso T-shirts and jewelry items.
"We have carried other brands in the past," she said, "but Kerusso is the best seller, and I see them all around town."
These are big-gift items with good quality, Freshour said.
"If a person buys one Kerusso shirt they will come back for another one," she said.
Susan Patton said she's probably worn a Kerusso shirt, but prefers to wear her own. Patton is an artist who frequently wears her own designs.
"I see people looking at my shirt and reading it, but most are already Christians. When I am selling them I get to share a lot then," she said.
During a Intentional Community Evangelism blitz in Kentucky, Randy Queen wore T-shirts with Christian messages all week.
"In the inner cities they wanted us to be easily identified as Christians," he explained.
Queen said his shirts rarely, but occasionally start a conversation.
"I have had someone engage me because of my shirt," he said.
"Make sure the message on the shirt matches up with The Word," Queen suggests.
