A group of summer campers have been rushing to the scene of the Icard Township Fire and Rescue Department each evening this week for some smokin' good times.
The department is hosting its annual Future Firefighter's Summer Training Camp through Friday. The weeklong camp allows area children to learn about fire safety, first aid and CPR, equipment and gear used by professionally trained firefighters and basic firefighting techniques.
The idea for the camp started with Chief Brand Lingerfelt a few years ago. This is the fourth year the department has organized and offered the youth training. Fire prevention officer Chad Houston oversees activities.
On Thursday, the campers cooled down with some team competitions and water fun. The group will invite family members to join them Friday for a cookout and graduation celebration.
