When the school board chairman, Tracy Norman, came out with her ad asking to be re-elected so she could continue to fight the "good ole boys," I was amazed!
I think the "good ole boys" in Burke County are our ministers, teachers, doctors, lawyers and business men and women who not only work hard in their profession, but find time to do volunteer work to improve our community and most definitely our schools.
Before the last school board election, there were rumors circulating that certain people — Rob Hairfield, Karen Sain and Tim Buff — were running because of a personal vendetta they had against Superintendent David Burleson and were determined to remove him from office. It seemed unbelievable to people who heard this that anyone would run for election for this reason. Anyway, we had a low turnout for that school board election. They were elected and we all found out that dismissing Burleson was a big part of their agenda.
Citizens of Burke County, let's not make the same mistake again! Make sure you vote in this election.
The educated leaders in the county and all the strong supporters of our schools have recommended four people to stop this downward spiral of our schools — Susan Stroup, Sam Wilkinson, Buddy Armour and Catherine Thomas. They have no personal hidden agenda. They each desire to improve our schools for the children's sake and to make sure we keep families in Burke County. Also, the condition of our schools will be an incentive to attract newcomers to this county.
We need all four of the above candidates to outvote the negative members left on the board.
