Firefighters from Drexel, Valdese and Triple Community fire departments responded Tuesday afternoon to a fire at the vacant Drexel Heritage plant one.

Drexel Volunteer Fire Department Chief Craig Baker said a demolition crew was working on the exterior of the building.

Heat from the crew's activity transmitted inside to the upper floor of the finishing room, Baker said. The building is currently vacant.

The Burke County Fire Marshal, Burke County Emer-gency Medical Services and Burke County REACT also responded to the scene.
