If pancakes aren't enough to draw you to the Morganton Rotary Club's annual pancake breakfast, maybe a 5k run beforehand will wake you up.
The 2009 Pancake Jamboree is this Saturday from 7 until 11 a.m. at the Morganton Community House. On the menu are pancakes, bacon or sausage, milk and coffee. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from Rotary club members or at the door.
Morganton Rotary President Alan Clark said the club has hosted the annual pancake breakfast for at least 45 years. The club uses the funds locally to support literacy programs and scholarships for students. Clark said this year, the club also chose to designate Burke United Christian Ministries a key charity for Rotary's support.
In the spirit of fundraising, Rotary added the 5k race along side the annual breakfast, Clark said.
Registration for the Flapjack 5k is from 6:30 until 7:15 a.m. at Martha's Park on the corner of College and Collett streets. The entry fee, which includes a post-race pancake breakfast, is $20. There will be awards for the top three finishers in each age group.
Food Lion is supporting the breakfast by donating all the food products, Clark said.
