Friday
- Burke Chapel United Methodist Women, 6350 George Hildebran School Road, will have a chicken and dumpling supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Children's plates cost $4; adults', $6. Menu includes green beans, slaw, roll, drink and dessert. Dine in or carry out.
Saturday
- Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church in Rutherford College will have a churchwide parking lot sale starting at 7 a.m. Breakfast, lunch and bake sale items available. Proceeds support the church's continuing ministry.
- Morganton First Church of God, 675 Summers Road, will have its fall bazaar from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Country breakfast, crafts, silent auction, baked goods and homemade candy.
- Valdese First Baptist Church will have a mission craft fair from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Crafts, breakfast and lunch, baked goods, silent auction.
- New Bethel Baptist Church Choir will sponsor a fall gospel singing program at 4 p.m. at 518 Valdese Ave. Choirs include New Zion Inspirational Choir of Roxboro, Unity Gospel Singers of Lincolnton, Handed Down of Old Fort and area churches.
- Poarch Chapel Missionary Methodist Church on Playmore Beach Road will have a benefit barbecue for the building fund from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Menu includes barbecue, smoked chicken, bun, beans, red or white slaw, drink and dessert. $7 for one meat, $8 for two.
- Willow Tree AME Church will have a breakfast brunch from 6 to 10 a.m. $5 donation.
- Hallelujah Square, 3025 Jamestown Road, presents a special night of gospel music honoring Doug Hudson, who is leaving Dec. 25 to enter a full-time ministry. Pot-luck supper starts at 5:30 p.m., music at 7 p.m. Free coffee. Call 584-7040.
- Lighthouse Gospel Music Ministries, 212 Walker Road, will host "Parables of Christ." Covered-dish supper starts at 5 p.m., singing at 6 p.m. Drawings for prizes throughout the evening. Free admission, coffee and snacks. Call 584-3697.
- Angel Food Ministry orders for November will be taken at First United Methodist Church Valdese from 10 a.m. to noon. Market baskets of groceries, including meats, cost $30 or less. Thanksgiving special ($36) may be ordered. Food stamps accepted. Pickup date is 10 a.m. Nov. 14. Call 874-0006.
- St. John Church of God Ministries will have its second annual Taste of International Cuisine from 5 to 7 p.m. on the upper level of the Collett Street Recreation Center. Approximately 24 different dishes from Italian, Mexican, Jamaican and American recipes available including curried goat, jerk chicken, chicken pie, lasagna and Mexican chicken wings. Tickets cost $6 at the door.
- South Mountain Baptist Church youth will have a poor man's supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Menu includes pintos, stewed potatoes, onion chowchow, cornbread, drinks and desserts. Cost is $5 for adults, $3.50 for children 6 to 10.
- St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church will have its annual Taste of International Food Festival featuring family recipes from more than 14 countries. Noon to 4 p.m. at 728 W. Union. Call 437-3108.
- Salem United Methodist Women will have their annual mission bazaar from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall, 1206 Salem Road. Proceeds go to missions. Breakfast served from 8 to 10:30 a.m. includes country ham, sausage, livermush, gravy, grits, eggs, apples, biscuits and beverage for $8. Silent auction, country store, bakery, pecans and more.
- Shady Grove United Methodist Church will have a fish fry from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Mountain Grove United Methodist Church, 3645 Fish Hatchery Road, will have a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Fried and boiled fish, hush puppies, french fries, baked beans, slaw, coffee, tea and desserts for a donation. Proceeds benefit Operation Christmas Child and Heifer International.
- Mt. Olive Baptist Church will have its annual building-fund barbecue starting at 4:30 p.m. Plates for $7 include pork or beef barbecue, rolls, baked beans, green beans, potato chips, desserts, slaw and a drink. Dine in or carry out.
- Crosslink Church, 400 Malcolm Blvd., Rutherford College, will have a family wellness festival from 7 to 11:30 a.m. Flu shots, blood-pressure checks, cholesterol screening and more. Breakfast plates for $5.25 include eggs, biscuit, gravy, grits, sausage, bacon, drinks. Call 874-0428.
Sunday
- The Shiloh A.M.E. Church gospel choir will celebrate its 39th anniversary with a special singing program at 3 p.m.
- Green Street Presbyterian Church will host Dr. James Logan Jr. for youth day at the 11 a.m. worship service. Logan founded Kingdom Fellowship Christian Center, a non-denominational church in Charlotte.
Wednesday
- Outreach Wednesdays are on the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of each month at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. A meal is served.
- "Knitwits,"a prayer shawl ministry at Oak Hill United Methodist Church, meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays in the fellowship hall. Bring a project and a covered dish. Call 433-5308.
- Joy Group (Just Older Youth) of Drexel First Baptist Church rehearses at 4 p.m.
Thursday
- Non-sectarian Buddhist group meets each week at 6:30 p.m. Call 443-1161.
