I cannot tell you how excited I was to vote last week and feel like I have a little say-so again in what is happening in my children's school system. A turn of the tide is crucial. In my opinion, voting for Susan Stroup, Sam Wilkinson, Buddy Armour and Catherine Thomas was really the only hope we have of re-establishing sensible leadership.
I would like to see a board of education that not only has the interests and well-being of the students at the top of their list, but also one that will work alongside and offer support to our administrators and teachers. Give me board members that really listen to the voice of the community. Give me a board that, if changes are needed, will make those changes truly in the best interest of all those affected by them.
I do not expect the new board members to be perfect, but to strive to put our system back on a path to being one that Burke County can take pride in.
