We, in Burke County, through the hiring of a new superintendent, have been blessed with a gentleman who has the qualifications to take our school system and its young people to a new, higher level of performance. Of course, this task he cannot complete on his own. It will take a team effort from the support staff, teachers and administrators.
Our school system's advanced achievement will require that our children be equipped for the demands of the 21st-century global economy. This positive transformation will not occur overnight, it will take time to effectuate the changes necessary to turn our system around and increase performance.
As the parents, grandparents and guardians of young people we have the responsibility to teach them to be of good moral character and to act ethically. With the proper tools and strong foundations at their disposal, our students will certainly rise to meet the many challenges they will face.
Our new superintendent, Dr. Arthur Stellar, understands that the goal of our public school system is to educate all children. Let's all help Dr. Stellar, work together and see that all children receive a quality education, so that each individual can reach his or her own potential.
