The purpose of this letter is to publicly commend writer and photographer Tony Robinson for his volunteer work.
Based on the interesting and educational wildlife-related articles Tony provides your readers in The News Herald, it is no great revelation that Tony loves the outdoors and anything that has to do with hunting, fishing and wildlife. A lot of people may not know about Tony's love for helping children and giving back to his community through hours of volunteer work in local schools.
I am a teacher at Icard Elementary School and I have had the pleasure of knowing Tony Robinson for the past eight years. I have seen first-hand how giving he is of his time and talents. He is our school photographer; he designs Web sites for the school; he talks to our classes about North Carolina's wildlife and brings in animals to show our students; he acts as a number of characters in various classroom activities; he has created a number of school videos, including videos for retiring staff members and videos promoting reading and fund-raising events; and he volunteers to drive our buses on field trips. He has even been our own animal-control officer and rid the school of a family of skunks!
I am writing this letter because I feel compelled to go on record with my praise for the unselfish acts Tony does on a weekly basis. Tony's talents and willingness to give are a real asset to Icard Elementary. Not only is he helping the students learn, he is providing services that in many cases we would have to do without because of the associated cost. With money being so tight across our community, that makes Tony's efforts even more valuable to us all.
