Hughes: Small assisted-living homes deserve kudos

»  Comments | Post a Comment

I am writing this letter for the small family care homes in Burke County. These small assisted-living homes do not get the praise they deserve.
They are usually run by one administrator (often the owner) and maybe one employee. They put in endless hours to take care of our loved ones. The care people receive is wonderful.
I work for the best home in Burke County. My boss and the owner, Shirley Carswell, is my hero. It takes a special person to do the job she does. I've see her spend hours doing paper work, cooking meals, giving baths and cleaning. The house is so clean I'd eat off the floors. It takes so much to run one of these homes; it truly amazes me what she does in a day.
Every year we in the county vote for best nursing home in Burke County, but the smaller homes often are forgotten. I would like to see small assisted-living homes added to the list. Country Pines Family Care Home would get my vote.
