A blue spruce pine tree is lit for the holidays each year on the Historic Courthouse lawn. The lights on the tree represent memories of and honors to loved ones.
The official lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 21 will be part of the Festival of Lights celebration from 1 to 6 p.m.
To remember or honor someone with a memorial light, mail $1 for each name to HMF/Christmas Cheer Fund, PO Box 1472, Morganton. NC 28680. Indicate whether your memorial light should be in memory of a loved one or in honor of a loved one.
You also can give the loved one's name and payment at the City Hall utility payments window.
Checks should be payable to HMF/Christmas Cheer Fund.
The names of loved ones will be printed in a commemorative program and those who wish to attend the ceremony will have an opportunity just before the tree lighting to speak the names of those remembered.
Proceeds help support the Christmas Cheer program and the downtown lights.
