A group of Burke County students are making an impression with their creative abilities with an art show at CoMMA.
Salem Elementary fifth graders got the exhibit up and going on Thursday with an opening reception. The art will be on display at CoMMA until the middle of December.
The students in Jason Parker's math class and Jennifer Putnam's reading class completed an integrated unit which incorporated geometry, fractions, and proportions in math. Jennifer Hampton, Salem's media coordinator, also assisted with the art projects.
In language arts, the students completed a study on art history, and researched famous Impressionist artists.
The students also used technology to create Impressionist newspapers. The students then recreated an Impressionist art piece with chalk as their medium.
The art show will be followed with a field trip to the Columbia Museum of Art, where the students will receive a guided tour, and will also have another opportunity to create a piece of art relating to landscapes.
