Jennie McMullin's passion for her senior project at Patton High School shines through when she starts talking about non-profit organizations and what they can do on a global scale.

McMullin is hosting a benefit concert featuring Christian alternative band This Beautiful Republic from 7 until 9 p.m. Sunday at Patton High to raise money for Doctors Without Borders, an organization that offers independent and impartial medical assistance around the world.

Tickets are $7 and are available at the door. McMullin said the entire price of the ticket is going toward Doctors Without Borders.

After researching several organizations, McMullin chose Doctors Without Borders because of its purpose and international standing.

Additionally, McMullin said, doctors at her church who have embarked on mission trips inspired the choice.

She hopes the benefit concert will not only raise money for Doctors Without Borders, but will also raise awareness in the community about global health concerns.

McMullin said one startling fact she learned during her studies was that Doctors Without Borders last year spent most of its time in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

"I figured it would have been in Sudan or Darfur," McMullin said. "It was actually places in China and the DRC that got the most relief last year."
