With Patton High looking for a second South Mountain Athletic Conference win the Panthers had to travel to SMAC7 powerhouse Shelby High.
The woes on both sides of the ball continued for Patton in a 35-0 loss.
"As a two-year team, they're doing well and are well coached, with not having the experience the other schools have. They'll be a good team," Shelby head coach Chris Norman said.
With Patton receiving the ball in the first half, the Panthers were able to get two first downs off of Shelby penalties to keep the drive alive including a 15-yard roughing the punter penalty.
The Panthers, however, couldn't reach midfield to and were forced to punt.
The Golden Lions got on the board early, on their first drive in 10 plays. The drive ended on a 19-yard touchdown run by Gerald Jennings, to put Shelby up 7-0.
Another Patton drive, kept alive again by Shelby penalties, ended on a three-yard loss run by Justin Reed for a turnover on downs.
Shelby, once again threw another score on the board. Kipton Kee, in four plays, scored on a 35-yard run to keep the Golden Lions on top 14-0.
For the rest of the first half, Patton was able to get close to midfield or get in Shelby territory.
Those last two drives consisted of turnovers, as Trevor Buchanan got sacked on fourth down and the Panthers lost a fumble close to midfield in the final seconds of the first half.
"Sometimes speed will get you. Offensively, we had the right drives but we couldn't score when we needed to," Patton head coach JK Adkins said.
The second half consisted of passing touchdowns for Shelby. It started on the opening drive for Shelby in the third quarter.
Chris Hines, on a 10-play drive, caught a 26-yard pass from Daylan Fuller and that pushed the lead to 21-0.
With Patton being forced into a three-and-out, the Golden Lions air attack was at it again.
Zac Gullatte caught Fuller's second touchdown pass of the night from 27 yards.
Shelby finished the scoring in the fourth quarter with a Fuller to Hines pass for 26 yards to put Patton away with the 35-0 score.
Patton put together one last drive in the last minute of the game with Patton crossing midfield to Shelby territory. The drive and the game ended on a seven-yard run by Buchanan.
Patton (4-4, 1-2 SMAC) looks to end its current losing skid next Friday hosting R-S Central High.
