With the soccer conference season winding down and Draughn High holding on to keep the undefeated record in Catawba Valley Athletic Conference, the Wildcats faced some struggles against Bunker Hill High.
Draughn eventually held on for the 4-1 victory to move to 10-0 in CVAC action.
Eight minutes into the game, Bunker Hill broke the scoreless tie, but a minute later Draughn clawed their way back.
Chase Hogg, off an assist by Jarod Zopp, got the first Wildcat goal of the game to tie the game at one. Eleven minutes later, Ger Yang off an assist from Toua Xiong pushed Draughn's lead to 2-1 at the half.
Draughn goalkeeper Yeng Yang recorded three saves in the second half to prevent any late surges from the Bears.
Aaron Yang, off of assists from Zopp and Jacob Crisp, scored two more goals to clinch the win and put Bunker Hill away.
After the game, Draughn head coach Josh Martin felt it wasn't a good performance for his two-year varsity team at Draughn.
"We didn't play our best tonight, as we were a step off. We got South Iredell (High) next, with possibly two men down, due to injuries," Martin said.
Draughn (12-6-1, 10-0 CVAC) was schedule to face off against the second-place Vikings at home Wednesday but the game was postponed due to weather. A make-up date has not been announced.
