Only once in a great while an artist comes along with the power to cause jaws to drop in awe. Philadelphia blues singer Gina Sicilia is certainly one of those rare finds.
She will perform on the Americana Stage at the Jailhouse Gallery at 8 p.m. Oct. 25 in Morganton.
Tickets for the Americana Stage concert are $20 and seats may be reserved by calling Clint at 433-0198.
Exposed to music as a young child by her music-loving family, she began singing at 3 and was writing her own songs by 12.
Sicilia became struck by the raw emotion and power of blues and soul music. Sicilia polished her singing and songwriting skills throughout her teenage years and began performing in clubs around the Philadelphia area by age 20.
At 23, she is now a rising international star. In 2008 she was nominated as "Best New Artist Debut" at the Blues Music Awards.
Jazz Review dished out high praise by calling Sicilia "perhaps the best blues singer on the scene today."
Music City Blues says "Gina Sicilia's voice possesses such depth and breadth that she may indeed one day be mentioned alongside the giants in the blues idiom."
The Western North Carolina Blues Society has invited Sicilia to be the closing act in their 2009 concert series. Sicilia will be playing to a sold out audience Oct. 26 at the Diana Wortham Theater in Asheville.
