Cavs victory, scary injury for Patriots highlights week nine

After tough week eight of high school football, the four Burke County teams looked to get back on the winning track.
East Burke did just that as they hammered West Caldwell High 52-8 on homecoming night for the Cavaliers.
Freedom, Patton and Draughn high were not as fortunate.
In the case of the Patriots, a scary incident overshadowed its loss against Hickory High Red Tornadoes.
The Hickory running back duo of Casey Stinson (110 yards) and Shaquan Reid (100 yards) tallied a touchdown each for the Red Tornadoes.
Freedom's Patrick Parks rushed for 64 yards. Patrick Hill scored a first quarter touchdown on an 8-yard run. Wesley Franklin added a 24-yard field goal in the third quarter.
The contest was stopped with 2:01 remaining due to injury to Freedom defensive back Darren Fisher. The Red Tornadoes had the ball on the Freedom 5-yard-line and the Patriots had no time outs remaining.
At Patton, the Panthers battled conference leading R-S Central High tough but fell 23-7.
Justin Reed's 8-yard run was the only score for Patton.
Draughn traveled down to Iredell county and faced the South Iredell High Vikings for their homecoming game.
The Wildcats offense bogged down and the run defense was ineffective in the 30-0 loss to S. Iredell.
