Wilco-Hess is holding a job fair this weekend, looking for people to staff two locations in Morganton. The company is looking for managers, assistant managers, shift leaders, cashiers and maintenance workers, said Nancy McClellan, a district manager for the company.
McClellan said the company wants to hire 15 to 20 people.
The job fair will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the BP station on the corner of West Union Street and Sanford Drive in Morganton, McClellan said. Human resources personnel will be there, she said.
McClellan said the company will transfer one person to each Morganton store from Hickory. The rest will be hired locally. She said all shift and management, as well as some cashiers, will be full-time employees and the remainder will be part-time.
The first Wilco-Hess that will open in Morganton will be in the BP station at the corner of West Union Street and Sanford Drive across from McDonald's. That store will open on Nov. 12, McClellan said.
The other location will be on South Sterling Street near the entrance to Grace Hospital. The target date for that store to open is Dec. 15, she said.
The store on West Union will be the larger of the two and will be open 18 hours a day, McClellan said. One of its features will be Dunkin' Donuts coffee and donuts made fresh at the store every day, she said.
The South Sterling location will be smaller but open 24 hours a day.
The locations are the first for Wilco-Hess in Burke County.
"I'm looking forward to it," McClellan said. "I think we're going to do well in Burke County."
She said if they do well in Morganton they likely will expand elsewhere in the county.
"We're really excited about moving into Burke County," McClellan said.
