On senior night where four Cavaliers were honored at halftime, East Burke High got its second soccer win of the season with a 3-2 victory Tuesday over Maiden High.
"I thought the guys were motivated and worked hard, and they played well together," East Burke head coach Roy Shulman said. "We had to make substantial changes in the back, but the kids stepped up and came through."
Maiden opened the scoring with a penalty kick with less than a minute into the game.
Thirty minutes later, the Cavaliers took over and never looked back.
Jib Brooks tied the game at one with a goal from 10 yards out. Just before halftime Brooks was at it again getting his second goal of the game to give East Burke its first lead of the game.
The four seniors honored at halftime were Brooks, Jason Moua, Sam Thao and Gene Yang.
In the second half, Brooks got the hat trick, scoring his third goal of the game to extend East Burke's lead to 3-1.
Maiden, late in the second half, got on the board to cut East Burke's lead to 3-2.
It was too little, too late for the Blue Devils, as goalkeeper Nick Clark and the Cavaliers defense held off Maiden's attempts for the tying goal. Clark finished the game with 11 saves.
East Burke (2-16, 2-9 CVAC) plays at Bandys High today.
