I40 traffic rerouted for hours

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A truck pulling double trailers overturned on Interstate 40 at approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday morning, causing authorities to close a portion of the highway and reroute eastbound traffic until almost 8:30 a.m.
An Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. truck is reported to have run off the right side of the road on I-40 eastbound, then overturned when the driver attempted to correct, said N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Cline.
The accident occurred near the Cold Water Bridge. Traffic was directed off the interstate at Exit 113 and re-entered from Exit 116. The detour was implemented for hazardous material cleanup of the truck's cargo which included corrosive battery acid, said Cline.
The driver of the truck, the only occupant in the single-vehicle accident, was transported for medical attention.
