MORGANTON — With the soccer season moving toward the playoffs, Patton dropped a 2-0 decision with Shelby on Saturday.
The Golden Lions' win locked up the South Mountain Athletic Conference championship.
"We played hard and did some good things. Shelby is just a good team," Patton head coach Keith Scott said. "We didn't finish, and it's been a problem for the last few weeks."
Shelby was able to get one goal in the first half. Patton's Jake Duncan recorded four first-half saves and finished the game with six.
Late in the game, Shelby put another goal on the board, lock up the conference title.
Patton (11-7-3, 6-2-3 SMAC) concludes the regular season on Wednesday against Freedom at the Catawba River Soccer Complex.
Saturday's contest made up for a contest between the two schools that was rained out earlier in the season.
