Draughn soccer wins CVAC

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The hard work for the Draughn High boys soccer team paid off, with a 2-0 win at Maiden High on Moday to clinch its first Catawba Valley Athletic Conference championship.
Thomas Russell scored both Wildcats goals off assists from Jacob Crisp and Dusty Abernathy.
"The Wildcats were never troubled in the game and held possession for most of the night," Draughn head coach Josh Martin said.
Martin also credited Yeng Yang for a shutout in goal with the help of a strong back line, led by Sa Thao and Kaleb Pittman.
"Caleb Smith had a great game at right back after a long lay-off dealing with the flu," Martin said. "Chase Hogg and Ansel Clayton put strong performances in the midfield and started many attacks for the Wildcats."
Draughn (14-6-2, 12-0-1 CVAC) concludes the regular season hosting South Iredell High today. The JV game will be at 5 p.m. with the varsity following at approximately 6:30 p.m.
