Freedom High School's strength in numbers and overall talent led to a 48-6 victory in its football game over Chase High on Friday at Freedom.
Freedom never punted in the contest and scored seven touchdowns as the Patriots gave the seniors a night to remember on senior night.
Quarterback Mike Helms threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter to Patrick Hill and Jerry Duckworth and Michael Dumaine ran for a score to make it 19-0 after one quarter.
Patrick Parks ran for a touchdown to open the second quarter scoring.
Dean O'Neil continued the onslaught as he caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from Helms and Taylor Hartsoe caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Helms to make it 41-0 at halftime.
Chase only dressed 26 players for the game and lost two to injury before halftime.
The defense for Freedom was stout. The Patriots forced two turnovers in the first half.
Marcus Kincaid picked off Chase quarterback Tyreece Gossett that led to the Michael Dumaine touchdown. A second turnover — a fumble recovery by defensive tackle Dylan Caldwell — did not lead to points.
"We played real well," said Freedom head coach Mike Helms. "(We) put a lot of things together. We did what we basically wanted to do. It was a great night overall."
Helms called off the dogs at the start of the second half as most of his starters did not play or were limited in the number of series they played.
"We didn't want to run the score up on them," Helms said.
Kincaid saw his first action at quarterback since breaking his arm in week 1 against Hibriten High. He ran 53 yards for the only Patriot touchdown in the second half with 5:43 left in the third quarter.
Chase avoided the shutout when Gossett threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Rush McDaniel with 3:06 left in the game.
Freedom moves to 2-3 in the South Mountain Athletic Conference and 4-6 overall.
The Patriots play its last regular season conference game at county rival Patton High (1-4 SMAC, 4-6 overall) next Friday.
"A big rivalry game for us next week," Helms said. "We are really excited about it."
