The first sergeant of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol's Burke County office has been placed on paid administrative leave.

N.C. Department of Crime Control and Public Safety spokesperson Jeff Gordon said First Sgt. Greg Duckworth was placed on administrative leave March 26. He said the department does not disclose details of personnel actions.

Duckworth has worked for the state patrol for 24 years. He was promoted to first sergeant in August 2000 in Wilson County and transferred to Burke in May 2006.

Duckworth's current salary is $70,500, Gordon said.

Sgt. Daryl Conley is acting first sergeant during Duckworth's absence.
