Emergency workers airlifted a 80-year-old man Saturday to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte after a car accident left him trapped in his vehicle.

William Ralph Curtis of 3786 Pax Hill Road was in his white SUV turning into his driveway when a red minivan struck his vehicle, North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Daniel Wakefield said.

Wakefield did not know the extent of Curtis' injuries.

Curtis' SUV spun around, went off a short embankment and came to a rest upside down. Shattered glass and debris stretched across the roadway and embankment.

Curtis' passenger, Louise Curtis, 72, of 3786 Pax Hill Road, and the driver of the minivan, Travis James Morgan, 19, of 3960 Pax Hill Road, were transported to Grace Hospital, Wakefield said.

Burke County REACT, Burke County Emergency Medical Services and Chesterfield Fire Department also responded to the scene.
