Two East Burke High School seniors will continue their high school wrestling career for at least one more weekend.
B.J. Tomlin and Caleb Huffman qualified for the state championships with their performances at the 2A Western Regionals hosted by West Lincoln High.
Both Tomlin and Huffman were showcased in the regional championship finals.
Tomlin won the 125 championship with a 12-4 major decision over Thomas Lunsford from CVAC foe Bandys. The CVAC wrestler of the year got two takedowns and a near-fall to finish the second period with a 7-3 lead. All of Lunsford's points came from escapes. Tomlin was able to get two more takedowns in the final period of the finals match, to clinch the 2A regional championship.
Huffman lost 5-1 to West Lincoln's Glen Self. All of Self's points came in the first period off a takedown and a near-fall. Huffman got a point on the board in the next period off an illegal hold penalty.
Tomlin (28-1) and Huffman (16-2) will compete in the 2A State Championships this coming Friday and Saturday at the Greensboro Coliseum.
In the regional's consolation rounds, Trevor Hoyle, who got a pinfall and lost by a decision in Friday's action, fell in the quarterfinals by pinfall to Owen High's Jesus Figueroa.
Draughn High School's Josh Wills also finished in the consolation quarterfinals, losing by pinfall to Shelby's Jaron Webber. Wills was the best finisher of the day for the Wildcats.
