The RSVP deadline for the Pregnancy Care Center's annual Gala for Life is March 1.
Nearly 200 invitations have been sent out, but reservations haven't come back as quickly as expected.
Executive director Wendy Myers added, "If you didn't get an invitation you are still welcome to come. We just need to know."
The dinner from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 11 will be at Burkemont Baptist Church, 4668 Burkemont Road. Dr. W. Howard Hall will be the featured speaker and North Carolina Senate candidate Warren Daniel will be the special guest.
"This is the largest fundraiser we have," Myers said. "We don't receive any government or state funding. We are completely supported by churches and individuals. This is what gets us through the entire year. This helps us to be able to support the clients."
PCC provides counseling to expectant women faced with an unplanned pregnancy.
"We offer free pregnancy tests, limited ultrasounds and baby equipment," Myers said, and PCC continues to support clients through their pregnancy with counseling and by providing educational DVD's on topics such as pregnancy, delivery, child care and first aid.
Myers said PCC currently has 56 active clients and up to about 80 inactive ones.
The center provides spiritual support for the ladies it's served, ranging in age from 13 up to 30-something, and Myers said some have been saved.
Through the counseling, Myers said, clients have shared how although they were considering abortion, they chose life.
"In 2009 we know of nine clients for sure that changed their minds and a lot don't actually tell us they're abortion-minded until later," Myers said.
Myers said Daniels will talk at the gala about how PCC was able to purchase a building.
"This couple named us in their estate and gave money to purchase a permanent home for the center and the board of directors found a place," Myers explained.
With renovations under way, she suspects it will be early spring before the center moves from its current location in Drexel to East Union Street in Morganton.
Even with a new place to call home, Myers stressed the center's needs are still great.
"We don't have money to do everything we need to do to this building," she said. "We need the gala to be really successful."
