Walker: A double standard on smoking

I am writing this in responds to Aaron Daves's letter titled "Teen welcomes ban on smoking in restaurants" (The News Herald, Jan 7).
As a smoker who is trying to quit I too appreciate the new law that banned smoking in North Carolina's bars and restaurants because it is kind of hard for a person who is trying to quite smoking to be able to do so because someone else wants to smoke.
So the new law that banned smoking in restaurants and bars is going to help me to be able to kick the habit.
Now if we could only convince more convenient stores to do the same and stop smoking in their establishment.
It's like this one convenient store that I know of that is about five miles down U.S. 64 past Wal-Mart and close to Denton's Chapel Church.
I think he has a double standard on smoking because he thinks that it is alright for him and his employees to smoke cigarettes in the store while the customers and their children visit his establishment but it is not alright for the customers to be smoking while his child is at his store.
But what he needs to realize is that if smoking in his store is unhealthy for his child that it is unhealthy for everyone else's child when he and his employees are setting in his store smoking and that he should do his child, himself and everyone else in the community a favor and stop smoking in his store.
