A fire destroyed a mobile home in the Icard area of Burke County just before lunch on Monday.
Jeff Icard, deputy fire chief for Icard Township Fire and Rescue, said a woman and small child were able to get out of the home without injury. He would not release the name of the woman or child.
Icard said the fire off Harding Road was accidental and caused by a space heater. He said the heater caught some bed linens on fire.
The mobile home, which was being rented, was a total loss.
It took firefighters about 20 minutes to put out the fire, Icard said.
The Red Cross has been contacted to assist the family, he said.
In addition to Icard Township, George Hildebran and Lovelady fire departments responded to the scene, Icard said.
