Big Brothers Big Sisters is in its 11th year of serving children in Burke County.
Because of the current economy it has been a difficult couple of years, said Director Linda Minich.
"Last year the program had to be cut back to 20 hours from 40 hours per week. It is hoped that no more cut backs need to take place this year because cutbacks mean fewer children being served."
Big Brothers Big Sisters will hold its annual Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Mimosa Lanes.
"Each bowler will receive a T-shirt, a Chick-fil-A meal and two games of bowling," Minich said. "You will also be eligible to win door prizes. In addition to the bowling a silent auction will be running all morning. You do not need to be present to win."
As an example of what Big Brothers Big Sisters does, Minich told of a women raising five children.
Three of her children have been in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, including one who is 17. He has been in the program for 10 years. His big brother in the program has made a point to take him to high school, college and pro football games. Because of his influence, this 17-year-old will be the first in his family to graduate from high school and go to college.
His younger brother, a high school sophomore, plans to attend college once he graduates from high school as well, because of the influence his Big Brother has had on him.
For the bowling event, Minich is looking for donations of money and or door prizes, for folks to form a bowling team or just drop by Mimosa Lanes to donate and bowl on Saturday.
