I read with great interest the letter by Fonda Ford (The News Herald, Feb. 18) and I wish to echo those sentiments 100 percent and add one additional dangerous practice that continues to increase in intensity these days — passing on the right on two-lane roads or other smaller city streets.
Just as Fonda describes the practice of forcing your way onto the interstate from a ramp without waiting until it is safe to do so, daily I see people who feel it is OK to pass a vehicle on the right while it's stopped waiting to make a left turn or while several vehicles are stopped waiting for a car to turn left.
For over a year now, I have been a part of Burke County REACT and have seen first-hand what a motor vehicle accident looks like when someone, who with careless disregard for others and the law, chooses to pass on the right illegally. Just as forcing your way onto the interstate is a deadly decision, passing on the right is equally a deadly decision.
Motorists should practice what they learned when they received their driver's license. Passing on the right is limited to certain areas and is outlined in the drivers manual. This information is available when taking the driving exam or a license renewal.
A driver's license is a privilege, not a right! Drive carefully and don't pass on the right on a two-lane road.
